The New York Times is reporting (via Slashdot) that geologists, in cooperation with the Pentagon, have found mineral deposits of iron, copper, cobalt, gold and lithium so vast in Afghanistan, they estimate the reserves to be worth around $1 Trillion dollars.
You’ll notice I put “found” in quotes above, that is because I think the pentagon [...]

Welcome Home, Matthew!
by Katie Mullaly on 24. Jan, 2010 in Life & World
My rant about the state of the universal healthcare initiative is going to have to wait. Today, I am a douchebag.
For the past month, I have been lamenting the fact that an entire segment of my neighborhood has had their Christmast lights up…and LIT. Every day we’d drive by and I would say, “Oh, take [...]
No Child Left Behind Leaves Behind Lots of Kids (but just the dumb ones)
by Riyad Kalla on 19. Jun, 2008 in Humor & Fun
The #1 threat to America right now is education.
When you really sit down and think about it, no one stupid ever plotted an assassination or a terrorist attack. No one stupid every rioted and killed police or injured public officials. No one stupid ever didn’t shop at Wal-Mart because it was eating America from the [...]
Anti-McCain Video, Contradictory Statments Galore
by Riyad Kalla on 09. Jun, 2008 in Life & World
Business as usual in politics… a Paul supporter put together a pretty aggressive compilation of contradictory statements from McCain.
What’s new though? That’s been pretty much a summary of the entire Bush reign… video compilation after video compilation, Hollywood movie after movie of contradictory statements from Bush, all his cabinet.
Check it out (load times were a [...]

Boston.com put together a very cool slide show of what $611 billion, the cost of the US’s war in Iraq, could buy. Some of the more interesting points were:
Billed as the most expensive high school ever build, Newton North High could be built 4000 more times around the US at the cost of the Iraq [...]

by Riyad Kalla on 11. Nov, 2007 in Life & World
The Raw Story has the scoop on a law the Iraq interior ministry is set to ratify that would remove immunity for all the private security agencies currently serving in Iraq.
The argument from the private military side is that if the law passes, private military forces will pull out of Iraq. Private military companies question [...]
12 Ex-Army Captains Say "No Iraq, or Draft"
by Riyad Kalla on 17. Oct, 2007 in Life & World
12 ex-army captains are requesting that Washington either get out of Iraq, or severly increase their presence there to get it over with by instituting a new draft.
Keeping in mind that a new draft would suddenly make everyone in America care about this war and mobilize, I’m going to go out on a limb here [...]
