If you are an Avira AntiVir user like me and have noticed for the last year or so auto-update fails regularly, you are likely an OpenDNS user like me as well.
This drove me crazy for about a year; seeing the update fail with this same cryptic error message over and over again:

Apple Loves HTML5 – As Long as You Use Safari – FAIL
by Riyad Kalla on 04. Jun, 2010 in Humor & Fun, Technology
Grant Gochnauer sent in a great little tech tid-bit this morning; Apple has launched an HTML5 demo site to show off the flexibility and power of HTML5 in light of their total rejection of Flash as the medium to deliver next-gen rich web content.
Unfortunately, as soon as you try and do anything on the site, [...]
Ubisoft's New Draconian DRM Kills Gaming all Weekend
by Riyad Kalla on 08. Mar, 2010 in Technology
Previously we’ve written about the new DRM that Ubisoft has developed in-house that requires a 24/7, uninterrupted internet connection (not even for a modem reboot or lost sync) to the master Ubisoft DRM servers.
At the time there was a lot of speculation about “What if your modem reboots?” or “What if Ubisoft’s DRM server goes [...]

Update #1: Confirmed, 3D Realms is dead.
Big thanks to Ted Regulski for sending this one in and Laurence Hartje for the clever post title.
ShackNews is reporting that 3D Realms is currently in a “situation”. The assumption, given that the company hasn’t released a game in 37 years, is that the “situation” is they are “broke” [...]

Blu-ray is DOA: High Costs, Expensive Players and HD DLC
by Riyad Kalla on 03. Nov, 2008 in Technology
ZDNet’s Robin Harris takes a look at why Blu-ray is dead-on-arrival. Robin’s analysis, while starting with an inflammatory title, makes a lot of sense.
Robing starts off by citing the first few key elements that killed the format:
2-year battle with HD-DVD took the steam out of HD Disks in general, making consumers a bit hesitant about [...]

Internet-meme pictures are never not funny… maybe one was, but it doesn’t get circulated anymore, so here’s some great ones I ran across at mmoabc:
The Fail Blog
by Riyad Kalla on 05. Feb, 2008 in Humor & Fun
After the fiasco that was the complete dissolution of my friendship with Brian Fernandes he has made a complete recovery and is now returned to full BFF status after pointing me to the The FAIL Blog.
On par with I Can Has Cheezburger? (lolcats) this blog is nothing but collections of “FAIL” pictures… I love these [...]
This is Why Friends are Important
by Riyad Kalla on 21. Jan, 2008 in Humor & Fun
Sometimes… not all the time, but some times I’ll get in a mood where my st00p1d levels are through the roof, and I just want to talk gibberish/nonsense with someone. It’s times like these that you really value your good friends that tollerate you when you get like this.
Here’s an example conversation I just had:

Halo Movie is “Entirely Dead”
by Riyad Kalla on 06. Oct, 2007 in Movies, Video Games
GamerNode has an interview with the Halo director that confirms the movie is dead… totally dead.
According to the directory, the studios involved in the process (Fox and Universal) were unable to get along during the entire process and the project died all at the same time. Not just a few people pulling out, but everyone [...]
Uwe Boll Can’t Sell Roll in Far Cry Movie
by Riyad Kalla on 28. May, 2007 in Humor & Fun, Movies
Kotaku scooped that Uwe Boll, famed “movies so bad, can’t figure out how he keeps getting money” director, actually tried to auction off a roll in his upcoming live-action adaption of the Far Cry game and was unable to get anyone to cough up $3k for the part.
Grindhouse Is a Total Flop
by Riyad Kalla on 16. Apr, 2007 in Movies
Unfortunately /Film is reporting that Grindhouse was a total box-office flop pulling in something ridiculous like $537 per day on average. As someone that really wants to see the movie I have to say the reason it’s a total flop is because it’s 3hrs and 20mins long… that is about 1hr and 20mins too long [...]
