Steve Jobs Obit Accidentally Published then Redacted

Todd Swarthout just sent this interesting bit in, it looks Bloomberg News goofed a publication this morning when they accidentally sent the obituary for Steve Jobs (who is fine BTW) out to their external wire of subscribers (instead of to the internal wire only). The story was pulled 30 seconds later.

As it turns out, pre-writing obits for famous figure heads in the industry is a common thing, to get facts researched, checked out and into the story ahead of time just right so the story is ready to run immediately when a death is announced.

While I found this completely crazy given that there was nothing wrong with Jobs, I found that (I guess my head has been in the sand) that he had been battling pancreatic cancer 4 years ago, but recent observations about his weight (check out how skinny he looks in the picture above) suggest that it’s possible the cancer is back and the iconic Apple founder may be having a hard time with it.

If you are interested, you can read the 17-page obit over at Gawker’s site who grabbed a copy of it.

If Jobs is back in a battle with cancer we send him our best wishes and wish him a speedy recovery.
