Introduction [10 out of 10]
I purchased the PS3 Dual Triggers a month or so ago from Amazon for $5 with the hope that they would fix one of my major complaints with the PS3 controller: The convex buttons get slippery and your fingers slide off them while playing.
There are actually 3 things I dislike about the PS3 controller, and in-order they are:
- The tops of the joysticks are also convex and bulge out, so your thumbs can easily slide off them when you are applying pressure for a long period of time, e.g. “running forward” in a shooter.
- The triggers are also convex and bulge out, creating a slipper surface for your trigger fingers to slide off of.
- The hand-holds that go into the palms of your hands are not ergonomic at all, they are almost straight “cones” that just go into your hand. There is no texture to help them be more secure in your sweaty grip after longer gaming sessions or an ergonomic design to make it more secure in your grip.
I don’t know how to solve the problems of #1 or #3, but the solution to #2 I can safely say is to simply buy the Pelican PS3 Dual Trigger attachments for your controller.
Installation
Installation of the trigger attachments was dead-easy, they just snap on. In the picture above you can see the original trigger underneath the new concave trigger sheath marked “2″. It just clips on the front of the old one and clips off if you want to remove it.
During gameplay I though that I might push hard enough to pop them off, but fortunately the way you use the controller and the way the trigger attachment attaches (it sits on the top of the trigger, then clicks onto the face) there is no easy way to exert enough pressure during normal gameplay to pop them off. You can pull on the trigger as hard as you want.
Performance
They feel great. It’s not quite as broad a “pad” as the Xbox 360 controller, it actually feels about 15% more snug of a lip on the bottom of the trigger to keep your finger in place. I actually think I prefer the PS3 trigger with the Dual Triggers attachments to the Xbox 360 triggers, which were my favorites for quite a while.
Conclusion [10 out of 10]
One of the first perfect scores we’ve given in forever, but there isn’t anything else to improve on these attachments. They do exactly what you want them to do, are cheap and with Amazon shipping will usually show up in 2 days or less to most places.
That’s all we wanted and exactly what we got. If you like your PS3 but hate the triggers, these are a “must get” in our book.

I agree I got them yesterday and the diff in race games is huge really. My fingers kept slipping in modnation after while. On slip is bad so. I was gripping the gamepad harder then I needed to just so my finger would stay on the trigger.
For the sticks, well there is a fix. Go to ebay and get a ps3 controller repair kit. Find a nice marble etc the right size for the curve you want (judge by your thumb). Glue small amount of sand paper on marble. Now spin the marble in center of the stick and it will make a nice indent.
Reason to buy a repair kit, incase you sand too much or dont like it. They are about $8
gamer, good tip — have you done this mod before? Was the controller noticeably more comfortable after the change?
I was sort of hoping Pelican would bust something out like these trigger mods that I could snap on.
I agree with everything. PS3 controller could of used a redesign. I just got the dual triggers and they work great. I like them better than the 360 triggers to.
a, I think I agree… they do feel more “secure” of a fit on my finger than the Xbox 360 ones… at least instead of hating the PS3 controller, these certainly helped make it feel better.
