Apparently these little tiny fish are menhaden (pogies) which breed in the millions, so we aren’t looking at an extinct fish (yet), but in a naturally healthy environment you would never have the case where literally millions of them would die and wash up into a marina as we see here thanks to the BP Oil spill.

Update #1: Some commenters on Digg mentioned that the death of these little fish aren’t such a big deal, while user ZTE on GodLikeProductions points out that these tiny fish are typically used as bait-fish for the larger fish; at the least providing a steady food source for something bigger. And now that food source for fish higher up the food chain have been decimated. In 6 months we could see a big impact on the seafood market from this.
