What you see in the distance is a mockup of the Maglev Wind Turbine that is reportedly 1000x more efficient than a standard windmill.

The massive boost in efficiency comes in the form of the Maglev requiring 100 acres of land where a standard 1000-mill farm of windmills requires around 64,000 acres of land. Additionally the power generated from 1 Maglev could power 750,000 homes while the same power coming from the 64,000 acre, 1000-mill windmill farm could only power 500,000 homes.

In the design itself, friction is almost completely removed from the equation by the “blades” being suspended above the base using “full-permanent” magnets, meaning they don’t require electricity to run. More specifically:

The turbine uses “full-permanent” magnets, not electromagnets — therefore, it does not require electricty to run. The full-permanent magnet system employs neodymium (”rare earth”) magnets and there is no energy loss through friction

It’s made with “rare earth” magnets… that just sounds awesome… which means it works… Q.E.D. bitch.

The coolest part is that manufacturing of these turbines has already begun in China, with efforts also ramping up in the US and Cananda. The estimated lifespan for a Maglev is approximately 500 years.
