Manhunt 2 Banned in the UK

VoodooExtreme reports that the BBFC has banned the sale of Manhunt 2 in the UK… the last time this happened was in 1997 when Carmageddon was banned (then later overturned).

VE asks if Rockstar has gotten ahead of themselves with the whole “violence is awesome” card, and I have to agree. There are all sorts of great ways to make a violent game with intriguing story line and intense settings… but a straight-up “murder simulator”… I don’t know that is very necessary, helpful or even fun.

For those of you that actually played the original Manhunt can attest, it was not a fun game. It was incredibly repetative and cool for about 2 or 3 kills until you realized the entire stupid game was sneaking up behind people then stabbing them… that was it.

There is nothing creative or interesting about that gameplay mechanism that would justify an entire game, let alone a sequel… and this coming from the guy that loved Soldier of Fortune 2 just because you could shoot people’s faces apart… but only for about 30mins, then it got incredibly boring again.

Update #1: Ted Regulski sends along info that Manhunt 2 has garnered an AO rating… doh!

On a side note, I’m pretty sure this is suppose to discourage me from wanting to play it… but it doesn’t it peak your interest at all?

In Manhunt 2, players can saw their enemies’ skulls in half; mutilate them with an axe; castrate them with a pair of pliers; and kill them by bashing their heads into an electrical box, where it is blown apart by a power surge. On Wii, players will not merely punch buttons or wield a joy stick, but will actually act out this violence…

Update #1: GameSpot has the scoop that with an AO rating, neither Sony or Nintendo will allow the game to be released on their systems… holy shit, Rockstart just created a game they cannot release… how much does that suck?
