Guitar Hero: World Tour Compatible with Rock Band Instruments

… but that won’t stop Activision (Guitar Hero publishers) from acting like children. Apparently the wording on the Rock Band games is essentially “compatible with most music game controllers”, while Activisions position is “Activision expressly prohibits the use of non-Guitar Hero controllers”… but they are still compatible.

So these franchises agreed to make their devices compatible and not sue each other, but with Guitar Hero’s instrument penetration in the market, they decided to play the real-winner here… the “We’re assholes” card and decide to try and confuse customers into thinking they had to puchase Guitar Hero controllers along with the games, even if they already had Rock Band controllers.

Nice.

Activision has rapidly been loosing ground in my book. Their lack of DLC is lame and it is not compatible between games. They go out of their way to make their instruments not compatible in previous versions of the game. Plus, the do stuff like this. Harmonix FTW!

  2. Riyad Kalla October 28, 2008 at 5:31 am #

I have to agree. I also think I prefer the more flexible/fun game design of Rock Band easier for casual players like me.

It would drive me batshit to get stuck on the same gig and not be able to pass it, therefore not be able to unlock more songs.

  3. chris November 13, 2008 at 9:58 am #

if you have guitar hero world tour and all the instruments can you buy the rockband game and play it on those instruments instead of having two sets of instruments

  4. Riyad Kalla November 13, 2008 at 10:47 am #

    Chris,

Yes the instruments are cross-compatible across the two games.

  5. Brad November 14, 2008 at 12:42 pm #

I have head that you can use the Rock Band 2 instruments with the Guitar Hero World Tour game, so you don’t have to buy both sets of instruments. Is this correct? If so, has anybody done it? Is the performance still good? Any info anyone can provide would be appreciated!

    Thanks!

  6. Ash November 16, 2008 at 9:47 pm #

Its great the instruments work across both programs. I can understand why they don’t publicize this also. First, they are in the business to make money not save people money. Additionally, why announce this only to lose some more market share to the other?

  7. Karen December 17, 2008 at 10:26 am #

ok, i’m just a mom trying to figure out who/what to believe about compatibility between XBOX RB2 and GHWT. My kids say the instuments are compatible except for the drums. Best Buy tells me they are not compatible at all. One of my teens wants RB2, the other wants GHWT. Can I buy RB2 for one of them, and just the GHWT software for the other, and they will be able to use the RB2 instruments for both? We already have GHII and GHIII and GH Aerosmith, including 3 guitars.

  8. Jigsaw hc December 17, 2008 at 10:44 am #

@Karen The RB2 and GHWT instruments are all compatible on the Xbox 360. This includes the drums. So, yes, you could buy the RB2 bundle and get just the GHWT game and use the RB2 instruments for both. Also, the guitars you already have will work with both games as well.

  9. Karen December 17, 2008 at 3:04 pm #

    Thanks for clarifying!

  10. Patricia December 17, 2008 at 5:24 pm #

With that last comment in mind is the GHWT and Rockband for the wii compatible with each other?

  11. Jigsaw hc December 17, 2008 at 5:40 pm #

@Patricia For the Xbox 360 and PS3 the compatibilty goes both ways, but with the Wii it is a little different. The GHWT instruments work with RB2 on the Wii, but the RB2 instruments to not work with GHWT on the Wii. So, if you are looking to play on the Wii I’d recommend getting the GHWT bundle and then the RB2 game.

  12. cozy December 18, 2008 at 10:06 am #

does the guitar for GHWT work on the first rock band game?

  13. Patricia December 18, 2008 at 10:19 am #

Thank you makes my decision easier!!

  14. Jigsaw hc December 18, 2008 at 10:49 am #

@cozy On Xbox 360 or PS3 the GHWT guitar works with Rock Band 1, but not on the Wii.

Since a lot of people seem to have questions about the I posted a new post yesterday that has a chart of all the music games and instruments that are compatible that Joystiq put together. Here is the link: http://www.thebuzzmedia.com/rock-band-2-guitar-hero-world-tour-instrument-compatibility/

  15. MangO December 18, 2008 at 5:20 pm #

So I see that the RB2 instruments are compatible with the GHWT game BUT does is still apply with the first RB instruments? Is the RB and RB2 instruments even different?

  16. Jigsaw hc December 18, 2008 at 5:25 pm #

@MangO Yes, the Rock Band 1 instruments are compatible with GHWT for Xbox 360 and PS3. The instruments for RB1 and RB2 are different, but similar.

  17. MangO December 18, 2008 at 5:32 pm #

JIGSAW, Thank you soooooo much! I’ve been searching and asking everyone and no one REALLY seemed to know the answer….

    thanks again!

  18. mary December 19, 2008 at 2:29 pm #

I have th rockband 1 game and instument for playstation 2 my kids have the wii they want ghwt for the wii will they be able to use the same instruments from rockband1

  19. Jigsaw hc December 19, 2008 at 2:35 pm #

@mary – No, I’m sorry, the instruments are not compatible between different platforms. The Wii instruments only work with the Wii and the Playstation 2 ones just work with the Playstation 2.

  20. Nani December 19, 2008 at 4:02 pm #

ok…I have PS2. If I buy Rock Band instruments including drums (bundle is cheaper!)….can i play guitar hero world tour?

  21. travis December 19, 2008 at 6:43 pm #

I have The GHWT bundle and i want to know if i can play the original rock band software (not rock band 2) with the ghwt instruments on the wii.

    Thanks

  22. Jigsaw hc December 19, 2008 at 6:48 pm #

@Nani I’m sorry I’m not sure about the PS2 version and I can’t find anywhere that tells on Sony’s site.

@travis No, the GHWT instruments do not work with Rock Band on the Wii. They do work with Rock Band 2, but not the first Rock Band.

  23. Darkwizard December 20, 2008 at 9:56 pm #

As far as I know for the the Play Station 2 the Kramer Striker (Guitar Hero 3 Guitar) and the Guitar Hero World Tour guitar do work on Rock Band 2 for the PS2. The Rock Band 1 drum set is said to work on Rock Band 2 & World Tour.

  24. dmopro December 20, 2008 at 10:42 pm #

I have a PS2 with Rock Band 1. I want to upgrade to RB2 controllers. Will the RB2 controllers work with RB1 on a PS2?

  25. brandonnash07 December 21, 2008 at 9:22 am #

My question is when you play the guitar hero world tour game with the rock band drum set, the guitar hero drums have one more color than the rock band drums. So when you play with rock band drums on the guitar hero game does it eliminate the orange color on the game

  26. Jigsaw hc December 21, 2008 at 2:23 pm #

@dmopro I’m 99% sure that all RB1 and RB2 instruments work with both games just fine. I don’t know 100% sure for PS2, but they do for PS3, Xbox 360, and Wii.

@brandonnash07 When you play GHWT with the RB (or RB2) drums the orange notes drop out and it automatically adjusts the note chart to just have the 4 colors. When you play RB2 with the GHWT drums you just don’t use the orange pad.

  27. rawpower December 21, 2008 at 9:25 pm #

What really tics me off is that retailers are telling people they are absolutely not compatible. Those are lies. LIES LIES LIES!!!

  28. Drew December 22, 2008 at 8:29 pm #

My son has the Rockband 1 set for ps2 and wants the guitar hero world tour game, can the game be used with the Rockband instuments, are they compatible in anyway?

  29. ghwt December 23, 2008 at 6:33 am #

hi jigsaw ,,,,i was wondering even though like 80 people have asked you this….are the instuments (evrything)for ghwt compatible with rock band 2

and please dont rip me off with a fake answer

  30. Jigsaw hc December 23, 2008 at 6:42 am #

@ghwt Yes, the Rock Band 2 and GHWT instruments are compatible for each other on both the Xbox 360 and PS3.

  31. Kipper December 23, 2008 at 2:22 pm #

I realize Xbox360 and PS3 are the latest greatest thing, and everyone is all about it, but those of us still running the ol PS2 are left to figure this out on our own …

I have yet to find any RELIABLE info for the PS2 versions of RB and GHWT… We have the full kit for RB, and just bought GHWT — anyone know if the GHWT guitar works for RB?

  32. Jigsaw hc December 23, 2008 at 2:29 pm #

@Kipper Yeah, I’ve been looking for any confirmed PS2 info about RB & GHWT but so far I’ve not been able to find anything from Sony, Harmonix, or Activision about the PS2 versions. I’ll keep looking and if I find out I’ll let everyone know.

  33. Rod December 24, 2008 at 7:32 am #

I have the PS2 and I just bought the Guitar Hero World Tour Kit and RB2 just the game. The Guitar Hero World Tour drum kit DID NOT WORK with RB2 or RB1. I’m pissed! I sent an email to Activision to ask better about compatibility for PS2, because I cannot find any reliable source in the Internet.

  34. Kipper December 24, 2008 at 10:43 am #

On the PS2, I have discovered that the GH3 Kramer controller will work with RB1 at least …

  35. Rod December 24, 2008 at 10:49 am #

The Guitar works just fine… the problem is the drum kit… which sucks! I don’t wanna have to buy another drum kit!

  36. Dana December 25, 2008 at 8:55 am #

I am very new at all of this.
I bought my children RB1 bundle pack, RB2 (game only) and GHWT that came with one guitar.
Is the GTWT compatible at all?
I bought GTWT along with the RB since it had the option of playing as a band.
Did I just waste my money?

  37. Tj December 25, 2008 at 12:45 pm #

I Have The Wii With Rb1 Is Rb1 Instruments Compatable WIth GHWT? If So How Are They And How Do YOu Make Them?

  38. Beth December 25, 2008 at 5:13 pm #

justa mom trying to save Christmas. Got the GHWT guitars etc for Wii, purchased the Rock Band drums separately and they do not seem to be working. Understand they are compatible. Any tips? Do I need a total of 4 remotes? 2 for guitars and 1 for microphone and one for drums?

  39. Steven Wojdyla December 25, 2008 at 5:15 pm #

I have the GHWT band kit for PS2. Can I play the Rock Band games for PS2 with those contollers?

  40. Rod December 25, 2008 at 5:20 pm #

I could not play RB with GHWT instruments. Sucks!

  41. Beth December 25, 2008 at 5:47 pm #

Should also clarify which game, it is the GHWT game not Rock Band, I believe the drums are 2 not 1.

  42. Amanda December 26, 2008 at 12:01 am #

I have a Wii. I am wanting to buy either rock band 2 or guitar hero world tour, but before I do I would like to know what is compatible with what because I want to be able to play both ghwt and both rb 1 and 2 games on the instruments.

  43. andres December 26, 2008 at 5:26 am #

i have a wii and i have rb1 .im wanting to buy ghwt but im not sure if the rb1 instruments will work the same as the ghwt instruments

    can anyone help me?

  44. Jigsaw hc December 26, 2008 at 6:36 am #

You guys might try checking on Joystiq’s Compatibilty Matrix for instruments here: http://www.joystiq.com/Instrument-Compatibility-Matrix/
It will cover most of these questions regarding the Wii.

I’m still looking for PS2 info.

  45. jmboston December 26, 2008 at 7:56 pm #

I own GHWT and I just bought RB1 for my wii. It is not compatible. I will try RB2 to see if its compatible with GHWT guitar and drum set tomorrow.

  46. LIZ December 27, 2008 at 11:05 am #

hi, i bought ghwt for my x-box 360 and i’m wondering if rockband 2 will work with the ghwt, can somebody help me please!

    thanks=)

  48. Ash December 27, 2008 at 5:44 pm #

Conner. Yes, Guitar Hero instruments will work with Rock Band 2 game. The companies will tell you otherwise, but truth is that they work together. Take a look at the Joystiq Compatibility chart here:

    http://www.joystiq.com/Instrument-Compatibility-Matrix/

You can also take a look at items about this on the Guitar Hero vs Rock Band site:

    http://www.guitarhero-rockband.com

  49. CHRIS December 27, 2008 at 11:12 pm #

heres a question i just bought ghwt for ps3 but out of curosity i found that the the kit fits to some of the new ps2′s but i dont have to ps2 version of the game to see if it actually works does anyone know if it actually works…to rephrase the question to make it more understandable can i just buy a ps2 version of ghwt and use the band kit from ps3 for it? just want

  50. Amber December 28, 2008 at 4:50 pm #

So for the rb2 and the ghwt the instruments are compatible for the wii?

  51. Sarah December 28, 2008 at 6:55 pm #

So I got Guitar hero world tour (just the guitar game) and I have the rock band special edition for the wii. I am trying to connect the guitar hero guitar to have two guitars playing on rock band, but the guitar hero guitar wont connect. Any help? I have been told two different things. The electronics guy at target said that they are compatible, but I cant get them to work. Any ideas?

  52. Bradley December 30, 2008 at 11:08 am #

On Christmas i got the Guitar hero world tour guitar bundle for the wii, and I was just wondering if the world tour guitar works with the first rock band for the wii

  53. Jorge December 31, 2008 at 5:24 am #

I hate this tipe of immature thinking, by part of the developers!!!!!!!
Why must I buy the Guitar Hero instruments if I have already the Rock Band set??? another 240€, here in Spain? NO. I wont buy more instruments! I want to play Rock Band and Guitar Hero with MY instruments!

  54. Kipper January 1, 2009 at 7:45 pm #

Broke out the GHWT I got for Christmas, and started playing around a bit with the RB stuff too… I’m playin on the PS2, btw

RB1 Fender guitar and RB1 drum kit seems to work fine with GHWT, no issues I discovered

The GHWT guitar seems to function well enough with RB1, including the “Star Power” button they’ve added, but the “tap” frets on the neck didn’t seem to do anything.

For the moment, they seem mostly compatible each way, so I hope this helps anyone else — with a PS2 that is

  55. Sam January 1, 2009 at 10:19 pm #

    okay i was wondering..
are the insturments still compatible on a ps2? or only ps3 and 360?

  56. Ashley January 2, 2009 at 11:25 am #

Ok I have read everything on the site and im a little confused. I see that noone can figure out if GHWT works with Rockband for PS2 but then I see that the guitar works just not the drums. Can you still buy the rockband games and play them on GHWT just using the guitar and not doing the drums? Or is this also an unknown?

    Thanks so much

  57. ruyen January 2, 2009 at 4:17 pm #

GHWT Wii instruments working on RB2 is thanks to the RB2 developers ensuring compatibility. Just as RB2 Wii instruments not working on GHWT is a failure of GH’s developers.

You can read them crying about it and placing blame here: http://wii.kombo.com/article.php?artid=12616

  58. Russ (Koolieo Guy) January 4, 2009 at 10:13 am #

hey so this is saying if i have rock band 2 the guitar will work for GHWT? because im thinking about buying GHWT

  59. Ashley January 5, 2009 at 3:45 pm #

I have tested the rockband 1 game with GHWT for PS2 and the game works with the guitar we have not tested the drums yet but YES it DOES work with the Guitar for PS2

  60. Kim January 7, 2009 at 10:01 am #

I have an older PS2 system and want to know if anyone knows for sure yet if RB drums work with GHWT software for PS2? I believe it has been established that the guitar for RB does work with GHWT for PS2. This is absolutely crazy that no one from either of the 2 companies can give a definite answer. I understand why, but get over it. It seems that in the long run they would start losing money b/c no one will buy additional software to use with their current equipment. Oh well if anyone knows where I might find this answer or knows for sure, please let me know.

  61. Kipper January 7, 2009 at 10:55 am #

@ Kim — I previously posted my findings with the PS2

RB Drums did work for GHWT for me

  62. Patrick January 9, 2009 at 3:16 pm #

I think other good question is, Are the instruments for PS3 for rock band 1-2 compatible for the WII console. I been trying to get goood feed back on other forums, but its 50-50.I have went on http://www.joystiq.com/Instrument-Compatibility-Matrix/
    and on http://wii.kombo.com/article.php?artid=12616
. The info is good, but i wan to know if intruments for PS3 are compatible for WII.

  63. Riyad Kalla January 10, 2009 at 5:16 pm #

    Patrick,

The instruments are not cross-platform compatible, especially not from non-Wii consoles to the Wii.

Most all of the Wii instruments use an embedded Wiimote to some capacity.

  64. Kim January 11, 2009 at 12:53 pm #

Kipper was right. RB1 equipment will play GHWT software for PS2. Rented it before I bought it. Took it home connected everything and everything worked no problems what so ever. Thanks Kipper.

  65. Lizzy January 11, 2009 at 9:56 pm #

Ok ive read all the comments …but i just wanna make sure that do GHWT instruments work wit rock band 2…like can u still play as a band wit just ghwt instruments

  66. Mark January 12, 2009 at 3:06 pm #

I looking for a definite answer for Will the RB1 instruments work with GHWT?
I went the Instrument compatibilty matrix website and the answers are N/A.
Is that a definite “NO” or “Don’t Know” ?

  67. Mark January 12, 2009 at 3:07 pm #

Sorry..I forgot to it’s for the Wii..

  68. Patrick January 12, 2009 at 8:21 pm #

Ok GHWT (on wii) guitar works with Rock band 2(wii), but not with rock band 1. Since GHWT uses a differnt kind of drum 2snares and 2 cimbals, im 99% sure it doesnt work for rock band 1-2.

Also, GTWT (on ps3) guitars work for rock band 2 on the wii, but not on rock band 1.

All these instruments, for alsmot the same kind of game. People are getting fed up of paying… Not reason there are more and more games being copied… TRy to make things easier for the consumers, and people will buy the official thing!

  69. danielle January 15, 2009 at 12:34 am #

hello – i have rockband instruments for the wii – can i buy the guitar hero world tour game and play it with my rockband instruments? i dont have the choice to buy the rockband game because they dont sell it where i am at the moment (in middle east) and it would take too long to post it as i want to play now! ha ha

  70. Ashley Bloom January 15, 2009 at 8:42 pm #

Forgive me if this has already been posted. I didn’t read all the replies. But, I just bought Rock band complete set for PS2 tonight. Will Guitar Hero world tour software work with these instruments?

  71. Angelo January 18, 2009 at 7:59 pm #

Hey, just got Rockband 1 for PS3. Going to rent GHWT to see if they are compatible tonight. Will leave a reply later. The fret buttons on the Rockband 1 guitar are for Rockband guitar solos, don’t believe that GH has guitar solos but I will find out

  72. Angelo January 19, 2009 at 11:17 am #

Awesome GHWT does play excelently with the RB set. Only problem I have now is my RB guitar does not go into Overdrive if i tilt it. Tried pointing it to the ground then going straight to the ceiling, but nothing works except the select button.

  73. danielle January 20, 2009 at 2:55 am #

hello so the GHWT plays with the rockband set for the PS3 but does anyone know if it works for the wii? im in the middle east so there are no places that rent the games out and to buy the games here are twice as expensive – so its a dear do for me to buy the game and find that it wont work – please help x

  74. Riyad Kalla January 20, 2009 at 12:52 pm #

    Danielle,

I think you actually stick your Wiimote inside the GHWT guitar for the Wii, atleast that is what it looks like:

So I’d guess “most likely not”. The PS3 and Wii both use bluetooth as their wireless communication protocol though… but I can’t imagine Nintendo was OK with a PS3 peripheral broadcasting it’s own control codes… I’d be surprised as hell if this worked.

  75. danielle January 21, 2009 at 12:00 am #

    thanks riyad x

  76. suzy January 22, 2009 at 1:50 pm #

I have Rockband 2 special edition for the Wii, I rented Guitar Hero World Tour to try and see if compatible. I cannot play Guitar Hero World Tour with Rockband 2 instruments. I tried it and within the game it does not recogize the drums or guitar. Just thought I would post to let people know.

  77. pedro January 24, 2009 at 9:04 am #

I have a guitar hero world tour band kit PS2 VERSION and this is what i found out:

    GUITAR works with Rockband 1
DRUMS can’t be detected by Rockband 1

    Hhope that helps

  78. Salomonboy99 January 27, 2009 at 8:55 pm #

I have GHWT for PS3 with just the guitar and i wanna know if i got RB1 or 2 would it work?

  79. mary January 27, 2009 at 10:46 pm #

Does GHWT PS2 work with RB1 band kit?

  80. Angelo January 28, 2009 at 8:00 am #

I read and the guitar works with RB! on PS2 but not the drums. On the PS3 they are both compatible. The RB2 game works with the Rockband 1 set

  81. Salomonboy99 January 28, 2009 at 12:04 pm #

Just to clarify. I have the GHWT game and guitar controller for PS3. If I bought just the RB1 or 2 Game, would my guitar controller for WT work or do i have to buy the RB controller? I dont wanna waste money on a game i wouldnt be able to play.

I Have The GHWT Band Set On A PS3 And I Was Wondering If I Buy Rock Band Games Are All My Instruments Compatible With Both Games

  83. Jigsaw hc January 30, 2009 at 9:25 pm #

Most of the Wii, PS3 and Xbox 360 compatibility is laid out in this chart:
    http://www.joystiq.com/Instrument-Compatibility-Matrix/

  84. Riyad Kalla January 30, 2009 at 10:12 pm #

Tracie, yes you should be all set with Rock Band on the PS3 using the GHWT instruments.

  85. Riyad Kalla January 30, 2009 at 10:13 pm #

Just a general note to *anyone* curious about compatibility, you can always rent the game you are interested in buying just to be extra sure… shouldn’t be more than $4 or so from a Blockbuster.

  86. Angelo January 30, 2009 at 11:00 pm #

Yeah check out the website Jigsaw posted, also not sure if prices are different where you are from, but in Tampa Blockbuster’s games for PS3, 360 and Wii run about 9 dollars and some change. But it is better to try it out, then to buy something that is not compatible. On PS3 they are compatible, I have RockBand and GHWT and RB2 work well with it

  87. danielle January 30, 2009 at 11:36 pm #

well done ‘jigsaw hc’ that website explains everything!!!!
    everyone just go to http://www.joystiq.com/Instrument-Compatibility-Matrix/
it gives every combination for every computer and game
    yeah thanks again! x x x

  88. Mandy January 31, 2009 at 2:51 am #

So I have XBox 360 and have been playing Guitar Hero World Tour with the Rock Band drums. Works just fine. My only problem is, sometimes I’ve seen drum notes that are held, how do I hold the notes? I wish I could just go through the drum tutorial on the game, but of course GH doesn’t let you do that unless you’re playing with the “official” GH drums. So does anyone have the game and drums with the tutorial and can tell me how to hold long notes with the drums on GHWT?

  89. Kipper January 31, 2009 at 8:06 am #

@ Mary — I previously tested ( and posted ) on PS2 the results for GHWT with the RB1 kit, and they seemed to work well enough ( ie, Drums, and Fender guitar )

And a general comment — Personally, it seems that ppl don’t bother READING the comments/posts, BEFORE asking a question… I know some of this stuff is confusing & conflicting, but take 3 seconds and see if your question has been answered already …

For Mandy, the held notes on the drums for GHWT are actually like a drum roll… Just keep hitting that note and you should be good

  91. Dougie February 14, 2009 at 6:29 am #

Ok so here goes for all ps2 fans if you bought the guitar bundle with game for ghwt the slider guitar is compatible with rock band 1 and its track packs and also it is compatible with rock band 2 as for the drums they are not compatible with any rockband games but the rock band 1 drums are compatible for ghwt including rock band 2 drums

  92. Dougie February 14, 2009 at 6:31 am #

Oh and I forgot all rock band 1 instruments work with rock band 2

  93. cam February 19, 2009 at 5:33 am #

well ive tried playing rockband 1 on my wii with the guitar hero world tour guitar and it didn’t work so…

  94. steven westerfield February 20, 2009 at 9:50 am #

ok i have rock band one and all the equip ment can now i have world tour the guy at the game stop told me the instruments were compatible i cant get them to work is there somthing i need to do or did he lie to me oh yea im on the wii if it makes a difference

  95. Angelo February 20, 2009 at 11:48 am #

To cam and steven…. the WII Rockband and Guitar Hero World Tour instruments are not compatible at all. Steven you should return whatever you had bought to Game Stop because they might not have lied to you, but might have not known. PS2 instruments work except the drums, PS3 all instruments are compatible. Any other questions just read all the post in this category, they all have good info and have discussed all this prior to this. Thank you and have a great day

I have read all the post and I still have a question. My PS2 finally gave out on me (we had a very long run) and I’m thinking about upgrading to a PS3. I have GHWT for the PS2 and my question is will the instruments work with the PS3? I can buy the PS3 version of the game no problem, I just don’t want to be buying more instruments. Also, if it does work, can I buy RB1 or 2 and have those work? I’ve been searching for a solid answer but can’t find one.

    Thanks is advance

  97. Riyad Kalla February 23, 2009 at 8:06 pm #

    Tyrone,

I don’t think the instruments will work — the only reason I say that is wired instruments on PS3 are USB and wireless are Bluetooth… neither of which I think the PS2 had. So if you want GHWT on the PS3, I think you have to rebuy everything :(

Someone please correct me if wrong — but I just don’t know how those PS2 instruments are going to communicate with the PS3 to even work.

  98. Tyrone February 23, 2009 at 8:11 pm #

Thanks for the response. I figured since the guitar and drums where wireless that they would work. Man that sucks…

  99. Tyler March 2, 2009 at 10:06 am #

I have RB1 for PS2. I wanted to buy GHWT and use all the RB1 instruments but wasn’t sure of the capatibility. Some people said yes, like on here, and some people said no like the Gamestop and Best Buy people. Let me set the record straight by saying that the RB1 instruments ABSOLUTELY, POSITIVELY, WITHOUT A DOUBT work with GHWT. No issues at all. Saved me a bunch of money only having to buy the game. Thank you on here who helped out by telling the truth and curse those at the retailers who were just trying to sell something I didn’t need.

  100. Charity March 6, 2009 at 8:44 pm #

Thank you Tyler! We just bought RB1 set (with the guitar, drums, and mic) for PS2 and wondered about whether we could just buy the GHWT game and use the instruments for GHWT. We also were trying to save a bunch of money. You have helped a lot. Thanks again.

  101. OshKosh March 14, 2009 at 2:20 pm #

okay. so i have GHWT on ps2 and i was wondering if ANY of the RB DRUMS would work on GHWT.

    any answers.
someone who knows what they’re talking about, please help me out.

    • Anonymous April 21, 2010 at 6:28 pm #

No, drum kit from GHWT is NOT compatible with RB. However I think it might work the other way around: RB kit drums compatible with GHWT.
      =)

  102. Tiago March 16, 2009 at 6:12 pm #

By what I read here, below is the final result:

    FOR PS2

    GHWT: Only the Guitar is compatible with RB1 and RB2;
    RB1: All kit is compatible with GHWT and RB2 (sure);
RB2: All kit is compatible with GHWT and RB1 (sure).

    uff! It’s right?

Hi, I am getting my 5 yr old and 7 yr old a Wii, I want to get either GHWT or RB which would be for my kids. I heard that GHWT is harder. can someone please help me.

  104. Kim March 27, 2009 at 3:46 pm #

What I meant which is easier for younger kids GHWT or RB, thanks

  105. Riyad Kalla March 27, 2009 at 5:15 pm #

I’d recommend RB — I know some might disagree, but I really break the two down into the following groups:

Guitar Hero: About the simulation and accuracy of playing — challenging but rewarding if you get good. Technically more advanced instrument simulation.

Rock Band: Focused more on the “fun” aspects of playing. A “no fail” mode good for older people and kids.

I picked up Rock Band and really enjoy it, I do have friends that love Guitar Hero to death — but in fairness, they are pretty hard core and either play instruments in real life and wanted the challenge, or enjoyed playing the same songs over and over until they got Perfect scores…

i have read as many as i could on thhe board but i am still unsure of the answer to my question that lead me here in the first place.

i have world tour and legends of rock on the wii as me and partner realised after having friends over with their guitar you actully open more locked songs by playing together, so we bought another guitar

so my question is if i was to buy rockband as the stand alone game can i use my guitar hero guitars or not as i was looking at purchasing the guitar hero drums as well and the microphone as well

  107. Rob May 2, 2009 at 8:37 am #

i have rockband 1 for ps2. i now have a ps3, and the rockband controller works on it since it is wireless. could you use a rockband 1 controller from the ps2 version of the game on the ps3 version of world tour?

  108. Retrop May 20, 2009 at 1:41 am #

ok … i have read this entire thread for the third time … i saw the question i have asked … i did not see the answer … so, despite possible flammage for asking an already asked question … i’m gonna ask it again …

I do not have GH or any sort and not even tried to play it … i do have RB1 … a friend gave me his GHWT guitar since he did not like it … i play on my x360 … i have tried to play it in RB1 … when i tilt it to go into overdrive … nothing happens … do i have to hit that palm button to go into overdrive? …

  109. Jigsaw hc May 20, 2009 at 5:41 am #

@Retrop The GHWT should activate Star Power/Overdrive by tilting it but a lot of times that tilt sensor has issues and quits working. When that happens you have to use they Back button to activate it. You might try searching around the forums on Scorehero.com and see if anyone else reports the exact same issue because those guys over there regularly take apart their peripherals and fix them. They are really helpful about posting instructions for how they fixed their issues.

  110. Sean May 21, 2009 at 6:49 am #

After reading this entire thread i see alot of “yes the rock band 1 guitar will work with guitar hero world tour”. But my question is, will the SOLO BUTTONS on the rock band guitars fuction at all on guitar hero world tour? Do they still have the same effect, are the rendered useless, or do they fuction like the normal buttons?

  111. Emachine08 July 23, 2009 at 4:25 pm #

This is a good question, which even I am asking my self due to that I have the full band for guitar hero world tour which did cost alot but atm I don’t have that sort of money to buy rock band full band, which I want to get and on guitar hero world tour it is compatable with rock band drums with only four drums on the highway. So I’m wondering if you can use GHWT set on rock band?

  112. wtc911343 July 26, 2009 at 6:24 pm #

I have all the GH and RB full sets for the PS2. I want to buy the PS3. Will anything work that I have now on the PS3?
