Laurence Hartje sends in an interesting post from BoyGeniusReport that Google has slowly started rolling out the Gmail 2.0 release that we mentioned back in September.
Aparently if you have access to the new Gmail 2.0, you can turn it on using a toggle that is sitting between your Settings and Help menu items up on the top right hand side of the screen (Obviously I don’t have it):
Besides a slight user interface overhaul, the contact management has apparently been redone along with speed improvements and some UI refinements all around. I believe IMAP support was part of the trickle-down from this improvement as well and a lot of people are already utilizing that (I think I’m still one of the only people left that still doesn’t have the IMAP settings exposed in their Gmail account settings).
Since the Gmail interface has stayed largely unchanged for the last 1.5 years or so, it’s nice to see a new version making it’s way out here.
Update #1: Another blog covering Gmail 2.0, with some screenshots.
