As a huge fan of the Nightmare on Elm Street series, but sad to never see it revived fully but just somewhat half-attempts through the years, I was thrilled and surprised to see that Michael Bay is taking the lead on this for a remake in 2010 of the movie and the main character that we all loved as kids: Freddy Krueger.
Interestingly/cool-enough, it looks like Robert Englund, who has always played Freddy declined to try and revive the character, citing his age.
While I certainly appreciate the fact that Robert played a great Freddy for 20 years or so, I also like that he stepped away from the project, to let a clean slate redesign of the idea of Freddy be attempted.
We’ll always love him as the original Freddy, but it can’t hurt to see some other reimaginations of the character and lore behind it.

This is worst news ever!! We are so against this that we’re organizing a protest in support of Robert Englund as Freddy Krueger. This is the worst news ever. Robert Englund and the fans of horror deserve much more respect than this. We need to fight it!
Please sign our petition that supports the real Freddy Krueger:
http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/nonewnightmare/index.html
after we obtain enough signatures, it is going to be printed out and sent to the film companies.
Shut up you guys are a bunch of idiots. The old ones were good but a remake will be a million times better. Burn the petition and stop your bitching.
Josh, don’t forget that Jackie Early Harley is the new Freddy, and he was *fucking awesome* in Watchmen as Rorschach.
As a diehard fan of the movie i can see were your comming from, its not like halloween were you can stick anyone under that mask and swing a knife. Freddy has a personality that ONLY Robert England can bring to the character. The problem is that Robert no longer wants to play the part. Where does this petition lead to after the names? Its just like any other great movie, someone else always thinks they can do better, it will never happen with a Nightmare on Elm street. What will happen here is the producers will throw a ton of blood into the movie and call it a remake ….sorry “re-imagine”. A nightmare on Elm street was a classic because it was original. This next movie will be nothing more than a ripoff, someone trying to make quick buck by “re-inventing” the wheel.
Ken let’s hope not… you remember the original Nightmare movies there was that sadistic/energenic/sometimes-funny freddy, and as the series wore on, he seemed to get more apathetic and sort of… unanimated?
I really liked how they re-imagined Freddy in the new-nightmare, and how ti was a movie about a movie about a nightmare or something… that was sorta cool. I think if they keep going down that path of ultra-dark/real-nightmare stuff that might be interesting… sort of a twisted Pan’s Labrynth or The Legend or something…
The only thing i liked about New Nightmare and Freddy vs Jason is that they brought back the old sadistic Freddy. This is a “horror clasic” not a comedy like they started to turn it into, but I guess thats what happens when different directors take over. You cant stop Hollywood, but hopefully, if nothing else they will at least bring the darkness back.
Ken,
Totally agree, that is what I liked about it as well.
The first Freddy was all about horror and then they started getting sort of goofy with the Nintendo/Powerglove tie-ins and what not. At the time I didn’t mind it, but then as I got older I realized how much I missed the horror-Freddy.
Fingers crossed!
Well apparentally we all have discovered that the new Freddy is gonna be Billy Bob Thornton…anyone else feel kinda let down? I fear for the characters entire personality at this point, God forbid he becomes some sort of Astronaut Santa costume wearing child murderer..we all know how that would work…*shivers*
Wait, what??! Do you have a link?
Jesus how is Billy Bob going to pull this off….
I liked funny Freddy, he was fun to watch, and I prefer him making a death sort of comedic and personalized toward the victim, instead of them just being clawed.
But I would like it to be Robert Englund again, that is my ideal, but it’s not in the stars.
