This is our new governor, Jan Brewer, declaring Cardinal Championship Week. It must have been weighing so heavily on her mind to make such a proclamation, that she is rushing through much less important business – like the state’s budget for education.
In a proposed bill that has been largely kept hush-hush by the republicans that currently republicate in Arizona, they are prepared to cut 133 MILLION dollars from the education budget JUST THIS YEAR. They are also going to GIVE BACK another 500 MILLION in federal funding. What the HELL? Seriously, is this a joke?
Our school system already sucks. I have never known another school system that is so bass-akwards and prides itself on the irretrievable SHIT that it churns out year to year. No child is EVER left behind, regardless of how little they learned in the school year…they just plow them on through. I don’t even think that most of the teachers can pass the AIMS test. I even had my son’s teacher send me an email confirming that he currently has “a F” in algebra (temporarily, I assure you all)…”A F?” Really? Let’s hope we can get him up to “AN A,” soon shall we?
I cannot believe that she would even CONSIDER cutting the education budget by ANY amount, let alone a total of 633 MILLION dollars. I am really, really pissed off about this, and I want you all to be pissed off, too. Our kids deserve not to be functionally retarded by our own government. Nobody voted her into office, so we need to gently remind her that she won’t stay governor for very long if she continues arbitrarily truncating budgeted money intended for the betterment of our future leaders.
I have an idea, let’s make cigarettes and tobacco $10 a pack and use that money for education…or how about all these godforsaken traffic cameras that are going up every ten yards? I’m sure that has NOTHING at all with generating revenue for the state…every other intersection is beginning to look like a fucking RAVE with all the flashing lights, but – again – it is 100 PERCENT to ensure the safety of our drivers, right? I might have rather instituted a zero tolerance policy on drunks and felonious speeders, but I guess that’s just ME.
I don’t live in Arizona because it’s a beautiful place to live, I live here because my parents dragged me here when I was ten. Arizona is for wealthy senior citizens, snowbirds, golf, and rehab. I have too much of my life invested here to warrant a big, disruptive move, so the least I can do is not let a bunch of overprivileged tight-asses determine the quality of my children’s schooling. I want everyone to call or send an email to our governor and tell them that you absolutely DO NOT SUPPORT the budget cuts.
