Akismet: Unknown column 'pingback_views' in 'field list' on line: 529

I wouldn’t normally post this because it seemed so insignificant, but recently when I’ve been trying to mark certain pingback traffic as spam with Akismet, I’ve been getting a plain white page with the following error on it:

Unknown column 'pingback_views' in 'field list' on line: 529

I couldn’t remember when this started happening, it might have been after the WordPress 2.6.2 update, I’m not entirely sure. Either way it’s become more and more annoying and I finally Googled for it (think I had broken something) and found this post where the author mentions he simply optimized his DB and the problem went away.

That sounded a little to easy to be true, but we are already using the excellent WP-DBManager plugin, so it was easy enough to flip to the “Optimize DB” tab, and try it out… and I’ll be damned it worked, Akismet works fine now, no more errors.

Wanted to propogate this information out there for anyone else that runs into this issue as well.
